Dr. Siân Dutton is a University Lecturer in the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge and a Winton Advanced Research Fellow. Siân’s work focuses on using chemical manipulation to alter the crystal and electronic structure of materials, with the aim of controlling the physical properties. Current projects include development of new electrode materials for Li-ion batteries, and development of high voltage Mg-ion batteries.

Siân graduated from the University of Cambridge with a first class degree in Chemistry and in 2009 completed a DPhil. in Oxford on ‘Synthesis and characterisation of mixed-metal oxides’ under the supervision of Professor Peter Battle. Siân was a postdoctoral research associate in the group of Professor Robert Cava in Princeton University before returning to Cambridge as a Winton Advanced Research Fellow in 2012. In 2010 she was selected by the New York academy of Sciences as one of ten future leaders in Science.
