Department of Chemistry, University of Surrey

Professor Bob Slade is Research Leader in Energy, Materials and Nanochemistry at the University of Surrey (UK). His team (typically 20+ workers, including 4 academics) works across a range of strategic topics in electrochemical energy storage and generation, at all levels from materials development through to working devices. Current programmes include development of high capacitance aqueous supercapacitors for short term energy storage and protection of lower power devices, alkaline polymer membrane fuel cells (the Surrey seminal paper in this area now has > 450 citations), enzymatic and microbial fuel cells (leading the UK consortium in this area), and redox flow batteries. Current polymer membrane and dispersible ionomer studies at Surrey focus on fuel cell and flow battery applications..
